The PADI Rescue Diver course expands on self rescue and accident prevention skills learned in prior diver training, and develop additional rescue skills and accident management abilities. Through practicing simulated rescues for a variety of different accident scenarios you will learn to adapt the core skills to your own capabilities, strengths and limitations. This will make you far more aware of yourself and your dive buddy, maximizing safety and enjoyment, and gives you the both the skills to avoid emergency situations before they arise, and the confidence to manage a real emergency situation should it occur.
Most professional dive organizations recommend that all divers train as a Rescue Diver for safety reasons, but most rescue divers will recommend this course because, though challenging, it's the most rewarding course they have done - it’s a lot of fun, and you will notice an immediate and dramatic improvement in your dive skills.
You must be a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent before beginning this course.
You must also hold a valid CPR and First Aid certificate. If you already hold a valid, qualifying certificate, you'll need to bring it with you. If not, the PADI Emergncy First Response course can be arranged as a one day course through Master Divers. This is valid for all first aid situations covering scenarios, beyond what you might encounter in dive situations, and is valid for two years.
The Rescue Diver course is normally taught over three days, with six open water sessions and two theory classes, but it can be spread over a longer period if you prefer.
