Pottery is Master Divers "back yard", only a short hop from our own stretch of the beach in Mae Haad. This is a shallow site, between 3 and 12 metres in depth, formed around a group of large boulders with a sprinkle of sea anemones and corals. Small cevices abound, making this an interesting site to nose through with porcupine puffer fish, blue spotted whiptail rays hiding themselves away under the ledges and occasionally Jenkins rays too. Bat fish mosey around at the top of the pinnacles and the keen-eyed may be lucky enough to spot a purple hinged glass fish. Large chevron barracuda, turtles and leopard sharks are also occasional visitors.
At night you'll see a completely different side, when this site becomes the territory of a host of sea urchins marching industriously across the sea bed, giving a flash of iridescant blue when caught in your torch beam, joined by a variety of starfish out to feed on the reef. Several breeds of puffer fish, shy during the day, are seen moving about freely at night. Be sure to check all those crevices and ledges for a diverse selection of resting fish, including one of the biggest titan triggerfish you're ever likely to see, and the glassy reflections of thousands of shrimp eyes. This is our favourite site for night dives.
